Bananarama
81年、カレン、サラ、シボーンの3人によって結成されたトリオは、ロキシー・ミュージックの曲名からインスパイアされ、「バナナラマ」として活動。
デビュー・シングル「Aie A Mwana」をリリースした後、ロンドン・レーベルと契約。このデビュー・シングルを気に入ったのが、スペシャルズを脱退し、ファン・ボーイ・スリーを結成したテリー・ホールだった。
ファン・ボーイ・スリーとの共演による2枚のシングルが大ヒットし、一躍ヒットメイカーとなる。
アメリカでも大ヒットを収めたのがショッキング・ブルーの「ヴィーナス」のカバーで、デッド・オア・アライヴのヒット作を手がけた当時の売れっ子ストック／エイトケン／ウォーターマンにプロデュースを依頼し、大成功。以後も順調にヒットを記録。
